Great Start for Woodbend Bantam AAA Oil Kings

Oct. 03, 2019

The Bantam AAA Leduc Woodbend Oilkings have had a great start to the 2019-20 season. After a long tough training camp the team opened up with a road trip to Medicine Hat and Lethbridge on the weekend of Sept 21st. The Oil kings had an afternoon game in Medicine Hat on Saturday, where they started the season off with a 3-1 win. After the game they travelled to Lethbridge as they played on Sunday afternoon.  The Oil kings got out to a quick start as they were up 3-1 after the first and held on for a 3-2 win. Was a great start to the weekend as the team played hard and were committed to playing a team game. The team got terrific goaltending performances from Jack Thompson in Medicine Hat, and then followed up by Ryder Ponto on Sunday in Lethbridge.

The boys returned to the ice last weekend for their first home game of the season against the Airdrie Xtreme.  The Oil kings found themselves trailing for most of the game but tied it up 2-2 going into the third. Airdrie scores an early goal in the third to go up 3-2. Dawson Madden tied the game up with less than five minutes to go. Andrew Morris put Leduc ahead 4-3 and then also added an empty netter to make the final 5-3 Leduc. The boys sit at 3-0 and are looking forward to their next home game this Saturday @730 at Sobeys arena.
