Bantam AAA Oil Kings Give Back to the Community

Dec. 06, 2017

On Saturday, December 2, 2017, the Bantam AAA Oil Kings of Leduc, volunteered their time and talents to support the Leduc & District Emergency Shelter Association-the Hub.

19 players took 2-hour shifts to bag groceries for customers at Craig’s No Frills grocery store for ‘tips’ that would go to support the many social support programs that the Hub provides.

Susan Perry, Executive Director of LDESA-the Hub, reported that “their hard work, pleasant manners and their willingness to go the extra mile to help the customers resulted in over $1700 being raised for the cause!” As an annual event, this day not only helps to raise funds for the organization, it also helps to make the local community more aware of what LDESA-the Hub does.

The program is 100% volunteer operated and other than rent and utilities, all of the funds go to support:

  • Hope for Leduc Homeless - providing care kits, socks, underwear, blankets, meals and transportation to shelters if requested
  • Operation Night Angel - provides short term overnight motel space to women victims of violence
  • Hub Program - provides urgent financial supports unavailable through government funded agencies, to those in crisis: rent, utilities, transportation, food, fuel, bus tickets, medical expenses, etc.
  • Coats for Families - giving out free winter wear to all in need

“We are very grateful for the help these amazing young men provided and hope they felt a sense of giving back to their community.” (Susan Perry - Executive Director, LDESA-the Hub)
