Woodbend Bantam AAA Oil Kings
A successful week for the Woodbend Bantam AAA Oil Kings starting out their week by giving back to the community. They teamed up with the Chrysler Midget AAA Oil Kings to collect food for our local food bank. It was a huge success and were happy to contribute to the food bank and Leduc.
October 19th; Saturday night the Oil Kings hosted the KC Knights of Colombus. It was a wildly exciting back and forth game; with the Woodbend Oil Kings taking the win 8-6. Ty Sauer and Tate Wararwick each scored two goals greatly aiding our team to victory!
October 20th; Sunday the Oil Kings were back on the ice facing the Maple Leaf Athletic club. Back and forth; fast paced, proving to be the trend of this weekend’s hockey. MLAC managed to tie it up late in the third bringing it to 3-3. Logan Lough broke the tie and opened the flood gates! The Oil Kings added two more for a HUGE 6-3 win; and a four point weekend. The Woodbend Oil Kings have had a great start to the season sitting at 6-3.
Midget Minor AAA Techmation Oil Kings
After a long week of practices the boys were set for another weekend of games. First place Sherwood Park rolled into Leduc Saturday afternoon to play the Techmation Oil Kings. The team got off to the fast start they anticipated and scoring in the first shift by Ryder Matter. The Sherwood Park team pushed back immediately and scored 4 goals in the first. Heading into the 2nd period down 4-1, could not match the physical play of the visiting team and trailed 7-2 going into intermission. The boys battled hard winning the 3rd period 2-1 but could not Rally back in time and lost 8-4 at Home.
Headed into Ft. Sask Sunday morning knowing what systems were in place and ready for an afternoon game against the home team. From the drop of the puck, the team was focused and scored 2 goals in the first and took the lead into the 1st intermission. Both goals scored by Brandon Tronchin. Continuous hard work through the second paid off as the 2-0 lead was held going into the 3rd period. The home team came out hard hitting in the 3rd and resulted into 3 early goals and found the Techmation Oil Kings down 3-2 with 15 minutes left in the game. With the shift in momentum towards the home team, the boys stayed focus and played their systems. Tronchin completed the natural hat trick tying the game 3-2. The home team fell into penalty problems late in the 3rd period and resulted in a game winning goal by Josh Gagnon on the power play. The sites are set now to take on the PAC Saints at home on October 26, 2019 and away October 28, 2019 against CAC.
