Oil Kings Weekend Review

Oct. 28, 2019

Leduc Chrysler Midget AAA Oil Kings

A Crazy 4-point weekend for the Leduc Chrysler Midget AAA Oil Kings.

Game 1 vs Royals - Royals go up 1-0 on an own goal as Leduc miss plays the puck behind their net and it banks their own player and in.  Oil Kings are resilient and find the equalizer later in the first on the powerplay.  After a couple of 2nd period goals they carried a 3-1 lead into the 3rd once again after a couple games in a row where playing with the lead has been an issue.  On this night Leduc managed to score a few more in the 3rd and truly earn the 5-2 win.  Trzaska was fantastic in net, Schendel with 3 points in the win, Smith with 2.  Powerplay 3 for 9 and PK 4 for 4 big part of success.

Game 3 vs CAC - Mens league style game on a Sunday afternoon.  4-2 after one period, Leduc pulled their goalie, called our time out and laid into the team between periods as the effort was not near our standard.  Came out in the 2nd energized with 3 powerplay goals, also giving up a shorty and went into 2nd intermission tied 5-5.  3rd period continued with lots of scoring as Leduc went up 6-5, 7-5, they’d score to make it 7-6, then 8-6, then 8-7, finally the buzzer sounds and Leduc was able to exhale and celebrate a 4 point weekend. Again the powerplay was 4 for 11 and PK 4 for 5.  Overall a sloppy game by both teams but finding a way to win was biggest thing.

Woodbend Bantam AAA Oil Kings

The Woodbend Bantam AAA Oil Kings had two games this past week. Wednesday night they were in Sherwood park for a hard fought 3-3 tie.  The Oil Kings led 1-0 after the first period, but Sherwood Park came back and led 3-1 in the third period. Riley Callan scored to make the game 3-2 with ten mins left. With the goalie pulled Dawson Madden tied the game with just over two mins left in game. Was a great game and a very good job by the Oil Kings to rally in the third period down two goals to get the tie.

Sunday night they were back at home at Sobeys Arena to play Grand Prairie in a big divisional game. It’s was an exciting back and forth game but was still scoreless heading into the third period. Jack Thomson stopped a penalty shot early in the third period. Grand Prairie did manage to get in the board five mins into the third period to take a 1-0 lead. It stayed that way the rest of the game until Grand Prairie add two empty net goals for a 3-0 win. Jack Thomson the Oil Kings goalie was unbelievable in net giving them a chance to win.
